About Faculty of Wine Inc.

Faculty of Wine Inc. started as a partnership between Roger Torriero and Derek Kranenborg when these two seasoned wine professionals had a goal of delivering a superior level of wine education. In early 2014 they realized this objective by forming Faculty of Wine Inc. Today, Derek (Principal and Managing Director) and Roger (Head of Education) are both pleased and excited to announce that through this newly forged alliance they have started to offer WSET courses as of the Fall of 2015.

 

 

Faculty of Wine Inc. is an “Approved Programme Provider” and as such is fully endorsed by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust to offer its course curriculum.

Derek J. B. Kranenborg

Biography

Derek J B Kranenborg is a veteran of the Ontario wine scene, former buyer at the government’s liquor board (LCBO) and Director of Operations for one of Ontario’s premier import agencies The Vine and one of Ontario’s oldest wineries Cave Spring Cellars. Derek holds the WSET® Diploma and a diploma in Business Administration from the Open University in Amsterdam.

 

After a 20 year career in financial services in The Netherlands, Canada, Spain, Australia and the US, Derek made the switch to a career in wine.It was during his time in Spain that Spanish wine became a passion.  Specifically Rioja and Sherry are Derek’s area of expertise. An Official Sherry Educator (“Formador Homologado del Vino de Jerez”), Derek was the organizer of Sherryfest Toronto 2013, the province’s largest ever Sherry tasting.

 

Derek speaks fluent Dutch and English, is working continuously on improving his Spanish and has basic working knowledge of German and French.
